In the early hours of Friday morning (if you’re in the UK), we experience the Full ‘Sturgeon’ Moon.

This Moon is traditionally named after the large fish that inhabited the great lakes many years ago, that were more easily caught at this time of year. (Sturgeon are now an endangered species of fish).

Some astrologers are calling this Moon a ‘Supermoon’, and it certainly is bringing a super-charged energy with it.

Each monthly Full Moon encourages us to dissolve and release heightened emotions and issues in our lives that are blocking us, and so this is why you often hear people talk about ‘Full Moon release’ work around this time.

Full Moons highlight whatever needs to be removed from our lives and minds, to support our progression.

This particular Full Moon occurs in fixed air sign, Aquarius.

Aquarius energy is about breaking down structures and hierarchies, revolution, and radical change. It is the rebel archetype and drives us to bring forward fresh energy, new ideas, and innovation.

Aquarius is the true humanitarian of the zodiac and is concerned with the ‘collective.’

So, we may see themes of cooperation, working on behalf of others and the community, or connecting with friends and social groups under this Full Moon.

With the Full Moon in Aquarius, we are balancing the opposing energies of the Sun in Leo.

Leo focuses on individualism and can be ego-driven. Under this Full Moon, strive to find the middle ground and try to avoid taking extreme positions on issues, as tensions may be running high.

We may also be asked to balance meeting our own needs (Leo) and the needs of others (Aquarius).

This Aquarius Full Moon asks us what we must release to bring in new perspectives.

If you have been seeking freedom as an issue, you may see this theme highlighted under this Full Moon.

Despite its water bearer symbol, Aquarius is ‘air energy’, so we may be reviewing our thought patterns and clearing any mental ‘clutter’ to achieve greater clarity on matters.

Aquarius is one of the ‘fixed’ signs of the zodiac.

In astrology, fixed signs represent ‘stabilising’ but ‘doing’ energy and tend to be determined, focused, and have great endurance. However, fixed energy can also be entrenched, stubborn and resistant.

Understanding this ‘fixed energy’ is important as we have six planets, including the lunar nodes in fixed signs at this Full Moon, which gives an intensity to this period.

It may bring up a drive to ‘get things done’ as well as feelings of tension and restriction.

This may be frustrating, or you may feel pulled in different directions. Acknowledge these feelings and spend some time journalling or doing divination to seek greater clarity.

We have both Uranus and Saturn very active under this Full Moon.

Saturn is known as the ‘Lord of Karma’ and asks us to focus on our responsibilities.

The lessons of this planet are never easy, but Saturn wants us to grow and move to a higher place in our lives. Try to be aware of what Saturn is trying to teach you, under this Full Moon.

Uranus can bring unpredictable energy and highlights where you might want to rebel and make radical changes and again, as with Aquarius, generates new perspectives and originality.

Due to the intensity of this Full Moon, you may want to consider focusing on rest and grounding.

These are challenging energies, so be gentle with yourself!
