There are many reasons why a magic spell may not work and here, we've given you five reasons why that might be the case for you.....
So, you have planned, researched and prepared your spell. When you were casting, you felt like it went well, but months have passed, and nothing has happened. The change you intended has not manifested, and now the disappointment and doubt in magic, witchcraft and yourself have kicked in.
We have all been there!
It is upsetting when a spell for a goal you are genuinely committed to and have worked hard on does not come to fruition. However, it is essential to remember that it happens to all witches.
There are no guarantees in magical work and witchcraft, and we encourage you to be highly sceptical of anyone who suggests otherwise.
The fact is, no spell works 100% of the time, and there are many factors and variables that impact the outcome of your spellwork.
However, we become better and more effective witches if we understand the reasons your spells might not be working.
Read on for five common reasons why your spells may not be working.
1. Your intention for the spell was not realistic or too vague.
Remember, spells ultimately work in the physical world by increasing or reducing the probability of a specific event occurring. Therefore, you need to be clear that your intention is achievable.
It may be more effective to break your goal down into the specific actions required for success. For example, a prosperity spell for ‘more money’, may be more successful if you analyse the realistic options for increasing cash flow, e.g. a promotion at work and use that as a focus for your spellwork.
2. You did not choose an appropriate method or correspondences.
In our experience, not all spell methods are suitable for every intention. For example, the fast-moving transformational nature of fire in candle magic is particularly effective for spells requiring new beginnings, but did you use a jar spell which works better for slow and steady spellwork, such as protection?
Ensuring your correspondences (botanicals, crystals, symbols, oils etc.) are aligned with your goal can also influence the outcome of your spell.
3. You were not in the right state of physical, mental or emotional health.
Depending on your goal and the spell, how you feel may have an impact.
If you cast a spell that requires significant physical energy and you are run down, it will influence the outcome and drain your energy further. Equally, casting for a new relationship when you feel pessimistic about love due to past experiences is also likely to affect your success.
We are not suggesting you have to be bursting with physical health and happiness to do spellwork; instead, your spells may benefit if your intent, energy levels and mental and emotional health are aligned.
If you experience health issues, you may want to consider doing smaller rituals or spells that build towards your goal as an alternative to longer or intensive spells or rituals.
4. You are undoing your spellwork with your post-spell actions and thoughts.
You have to meet the Universe, energy, spirit (or whatever your personal beliefs) halfway when we work magic.
This means taking action that is consistent with your goal. For example, if you cast a spell for a new career but never apply for any jobs or undertake training – your spell will not work!
However, it also means keeping your thoughts and emotions aligned and not cancelling out your spellwork by stress, worry and doubt.
If you do not feel you deserve what you are casting for or it is unachievable, we encourage you to do some inner work or shadow work on those blocks.
5. You are doing ‘too much’!
Sometimes, especially as new witches, we become very excited about casting spells and either cast too many for the same goal; or put too many intentions into one spell.
This tends to result in a lack of focus and confused energy.
Equally, we can become hyper-fixated on a spell, which can mean we never release the energy to go out and create the change required in the physical world. Sometimes, less is more!
One well-crafted spell for a clear, realistic goal is often more effective than doing multiple spells in a short timeframe. Also, after you have cast your spell, let it go to do its work and focus on the real-world actions you need to take.
Of course, there are many other reasons your spells may not be working.
It’s also important to acknowledge that when it happens, give yourself some time to experience your feelings. You will likely feel discouraged, frustrated, doubtful etc., all of which are valid reactions.
However, we encourage you not to stay in that place.
After some time, try and reframe your thoughts to see them as an opportunity for learning and improvement by reassessing your spell or ritual to refine your skills.
Be a magical scientist, try, review, adapt and try again – it will ultimately make you a better, kick-ass witch!
